Volgens Elcomsoft was het altijd een lastige taak om opgeslagen wachtwoorden uit te lezen. Daarnaast gebruiken moderne browsers zoals IE8 en IE9 een verbeterd beveiligingsmodel, waardoor het achterhalen van gecachte wachtwoorden onmogelijk is, tenzij de precieze autorisatie URL bekend is.

De "Facebook Password Extractor" is een gratis tool die via een paar muisklikken gecachte Facebook-wachtwoorden uit populaire browsers achterhaalt.

Op dit moment worden alle IE, Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome en Apple Safari-versies ondersteund. De tool detecteert automatisch alle geïnstalleerde browsers en analyseert vervolgens de wachtwoord cache en opgeslagen auto-inlog formulieren. "Als Facebook ooit vanaf die computer is benaderd, zijn de kansen dat een correct wachtwoord kan worden gevonden zeer hoog", aldus Elcomsoft.
